Greetings from India. Elephants are important in many ways. This fellow is one of several beautiful castings in the main hallway of the Imperial Hotel, where we are staying for 2 days.
When Nari and I entered the hotel last night (at around midnight, we were greeted by two women who applied red dots to our foreheads. Hindu tradition says this protects us.

So, we unpacked and then went to the bar for a beer and wine. Everything is polished and gleaming.

Tomorrow we will start our sightseeing, but it is impressive how our jet had to thread the needle to get to Delhi.

Look at how big Greenland is! It plays an important part in dominating the North Atlantic!
See how the jet flew across the UK and northern Europe, across the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea, avoiding Ukraine and its neighbors. Then straight east towards Tashkent. These are photos of the flight display on the plane.

Note that at the foothills of the Himalayas, we took a sharp turn to the southeast. Why? Because immediately to our south lies Afghanistan! Yikes.
So, this neighborhood is more contested than, say, North America which is surrounded by the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. The US is indeed fortunate!

From where the plane is on this photo, we skirted along the Himalayas to reach Delhi. See how large the sub-continent is, reaching all the way to Colombo in Sri Lanka. We will visit several cities in the Delhi region (Udaipur, Jaipur and Agra (Taj Mahal) and Ranthambore, a preserve for tigers.
More soon!
Ciao,
Brio
