Why is life on an island so mystical? John Donne wrote that no man is an island. So perhaps an island challenges who we are and how we are connected. It asks us why we are here and why are we not where everyone else is? Are we made to remain disconnected and separate? Or do we entertain separateness to reconnect in a deeper way?
After all, how can life thrive on such a rocky base? These trees deserve our wonder as we marvel at their tenaciousness and beauty. We think we need deep soil for our roots. These trees are been able to work around such limits.
Brio continues on her way west towards the connectedness of Portland. But we drag ourselves that way, full of regret for leaving such a solitary existence.
Hard labor, such as raising the anchor, goes more easily with two.
And so it is as we depart from Harbor Island.
Cheers!
Brio
