Classy Camden

One of the "classiest" places on the Maine Coast is Camden. Not only is it centrally located on the Coast between Portland and Bar Harbor, but it is "insulated" from the I-95 crowd due to its being a couple of hours up Route 1 from Portland. As such, it possesses a bit of a recherche atmosphere. It has always attracted wealth, usually quiet, but sometimes splashy. The quiet wealth is what seems to have the staying power. Among the quiet in Camden is the Camden Yacht Club.

Brio was fortunate to be invited to visit Camden and to spend the night at the Camden Yacht Club. We had a lovely dinner with friends and then tied up for the night. Below is a picture of the Yacht Club with a classic Herraschoff-designed sloop in front of the Club.

Bright and early the next morning, we walked up the street to French & Brawn to buy fresh fruit, coffee and a newspaper.

Then we cast off before anyone could notice we had spent the night on the dock! It's hard to hide Brio, but she slipped away before she was seen.

We went out and grabbed a mooring to wait for the time to rendezvous in Rockland with our cruising buddy, Charlie Tarbell. The morning passed quickly as we watched all of the activity near our mooring.

Here's a classic Friendship sloop just before the jib is raised. Behind the boat are the iconic Camden Hills.

Cheers!

Brio
