The geology of this area on the Kennebeccasis River and the St. John's River is fascinating. These rivers follow the underlying structure of fault lines trending northeast-southwest. And the glacial geology seems to have overdeepened some of these valleys so the river bottom lies below the level of the Bay of Fundy. There's so much more here to know and understand!
Friday morning we woke up from our recovery sleep after coming up the Reversing Falls. As Astronaut John Glenn said, "Man, what a ride." We would agree. The Royal Kennebeccasis Yacht Club is in a beautiful setting on the Kennebecasis River. When Queen Victoria honored the Club with its royal status in the late 1800s, her proclamation added a "c" to the name, changing the Club's name irrevocably to Kennebeccasis. It's a tongue-twister. But it's the Queen's English.
We met with the diver in the early afternoon. When he surfaced from his initial examination of the port propeller, he said, "I have bad news." "You are missing a blade on your front propeller. It should have five blades and instead has only four. The aft propeller has four as it should." He dove again and returned with the propeller serial number because we clearly needed to order a new propeller.
Importantly, the Yacht Club has several important services to offer us. It has a 75-ton Travellift, which can lift boats out of and launch into the water. The lift is driven down the ramp so the boat can drive under it. Then the straps ar positioned under the boat and the lift pulls up on the straps. Up goes the boat until it clears the pavement. The lift drives forward so work can be done on her engines and propellers. Lifts are classified by the weight capacity. Brio weighs 25 tons, so we're good!
Next door to the yard is a propeller specialist who will do the actual replacement. That's also good news. As of this morning, UPS reports that the props are "in the warehouse", ready to go out for delivery. We'll see!
We are fortunate to be in such a beautiful place with friendly people. To that point, here is a sunset from this weekend.
Taken from Brio's mooring.
Cheers,
Brio
