A Boothbay Respite

Following our exploration of the islands from Vinalhaven through Muscongus Bay to Pemaquid Point, we now turn our attention to more inland exploration. Here, we find Wyeth to Boothbay's Tugboat Marina and then, in coming posts, the major and minor (tight squeeze) rivers.

We made a quick detour once into Muscongus Bay to Maple Juice Cove on the St. George River to see a famous house captured in a Wyeth painting. He painted a woman dressed in white lying in a field and looking up at a house and barn beyond her. Here's the setting:

Not everything was remote during this cruise. A few times our curiosity led us to watch TV. This is an unheard of luxury now available in distant corners of the globe.

We had to see the Patriots lose to the Eagles! Here's the game before, between the Cleveland Browns and the Cincinnati Bengals. This worked well until heavy rains forced us to catch the last few minutes of the Patriots game on the Internet. Thank goodness for multiple technologies!

Here, the viewer was astounded! As were we all.

Once we left Muscongus Bay, we went around the southern tip of Pemaquid Point and we then "Thread the Needle."

From here, we turned the corner and headed into Boothbay Harbor. First stop was Carousel Marina for fuel, water and a pump-out. We arrived at 11:30 and were told they would close everything down at noon in preparation for Hurricane Lee's arrival. At that moment, no one knew where Lee would hit.

So we were glad we had a full tank of water and fuel and an empty waste tank. We spent the night at our favorite Tug Boat Marina. Two visits to Hannafords for food shopping. Showers, shaving, laundry. Suddenly, we were back in the world of the living! And the stylish life!

Fog was never far away, even in Boothbay.

Cheers!

Brio
